Meet Ambassador Yousif Ghafari, the man behind Ghafari Hall

Join alumnus and former U.S. Ambassador to Slovenia Yousif B. Ghafari for a discussion about his experiences as an international student, business leader and philanthropist at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, in Partrich Auditorium of the Law School. This special event is the keynote presentation for International Education Week 2015 and sponsored by the Office of International Programs.

Ghafari, namesake of the Ghafari Residence Hall on Anthony Wayne Drive, is chairman of Ghafari Associates and a member of the College of Engineering’s Hall of Fame. A native of Lebanon, Ghafari moved to Detroit when he was 19 and enrolled at WSU, receiving a bachelor’s in math in 1974, a master’s in applied math and computer applications in 1975 and a master’s in chemical engineering in 1981. After earning an MBA from Michigan State, he became a licensed professional engineer determined to build his future on the use of computers in manufacturing design. Among many notable architectural and engineering projects on his firm’s resume are refurbishment of Old Main and work on the Danto Engineering Development Center.
