Ushering in the Year of the Monkey with festive gala Feb. 10

January 20, 2016

According to Chinese custom, a good start to a new year leads to a lucky year ahead.

Join the Confucius Institute and the Chinese Students and Scholars Association Feb. 10 in welcoming Chinese New Year 2016, the Year of the Monkey, with an evening gala of food and entertainment in the second floor ballroom of the Student Center.  Dinner is being served at 6 p.m., followed by Chinese dance and music at 7 until 9 p.m.

The Chinese year is based on a 12-year animal zodiac calendar, and each year is ushered in with lavish festivals to celebrate the hard work of the previous year and hopes for a prosperous new year.

Organizers say more than 400 students attended last year’s gala, which celebrated the Year of the Goat.

Free tickets are available by contacting the Confucius Institute at ci@wayne.edu, or by calling Jessica Dong at 313-577-0152.
