Biography
Dr. Huajing Xiu Maske is assistant vice president, international partnerships, in the Office of International Programs. She is also professor (clinical) of global studies in the Department of Classical & Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Wayne State University.
In her role as assistant vice president, international partnerships, Dr. Maske is responsible for exploring, developing and maintaining WSU’s formalized relationships with educational institutions in other countries. She oversees development of strategies, policies, and procedures in support of international educational programming and engagement efforts at Wayne State University. Furthermore, she also facilitates international collaborations and partnerships, particularly in China and nearby countries. Her responsibilities also encompass the expansion of programs and resources such as increasing international recruitment of undergraduate and graduate students and creating opportunities for WSU students and faculty to engage globally.
A veteran in international education, Dr. Maske has 20 years of experience building partnerships across the globe, working with international students and scholars to support their academic and social success in the U.S. She has designed successful campus programs in the U.S. and abroad that provide transformative experiences for both international and domestic students related to diversity and inclusion. She is passionate about linking internationalization with initiatives related to diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus and in the community.
In addition to her skills as a university administrator, Dr. Maske is a leading specialist on the teaching of China-related material in K-12 schools and on teacher training. She serves on the committee of the Specialists Panel of International Chinese Language Teaching Materials for Beijing Language and Culture University.
She has taught courses on Chinese art and global cultural awareness and supervised student practicum teaching. She trains Chinese teachers on teaching pedagogies and intercultural humility; lectures in the U.S., Europe, and Asia; and has published extensively in both English and Chinese.
