Students have until February 13 to submit their 250-300 word abstract project descriptions for the chance to win one of 10-$500 scholarships being awarded in the contest, "At the Global Crossroads: Cultural Pathways in Detroit and Beyond."

The Office of International Programs is sponsoring $5,000 in scholarships for undergrads exploring themes of culture in local and global context to develop their ideas into successful research proposals.

Scholarship winners will develop poster proposals for presentation at the March 31 Rushton Undergraduate Research Conference on Language, Literature and Culture, after which four will be awarded $2,300 Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program grants.

The Global Crossroads Scholarship Competition spotlights the June 17 performance of "Shostakovich and The Black Monk: A Russian Fantasy" at the Detroit Institute of Art's Detroit Film Theatre, where poster proposals will also be on view. All students entering the scholarship competition receive tickets to the performance by the Emerson String Quartet.

In addition to OIP and UROP, the competition and performance is a collaborative effort of the Irvin D. Reid Honors College, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Office of the Vice President for Research, the Department for Fine, Performance, and Communication Arts, Global Studies and The Humanities Center, supporting the Black Monk Festival being organized by the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival and the WSU Russian Program.
