Muchisimas gracias to the Consul General of Mexico, Fernando González Saiffe, who met with nine Mexican students studying at Wayne State through the Proyecta program and hosted by the Office of International Programs.

Proyecta 100,000 is an initiative of the Mexican Agency for International Cooperation and Development. The student mobility program provides educational opportunities for university-level students from Mexico, with the goal of sending 100,000 students from Mexico to the United States and 50,000 U.S. students to Mexico by 2018.

This is the fourth year WSU has hosted Proyecta. The students arrived Nov. 5 and will be on campus until Dec. 2. While here, they participate in intensive studies through the English Language Institute to improve their English-speaking and comprehension. Then they put their English skills to the test by participating in activities such as an organized shopping trip to Great Lakes Crossing and attending America's Thanksgiving Parade, which helps the students better understand American culture and traditions. The students also were invited to Thanksgiving dinner at Jacob House with President M. Roy Wilson and First Lady Jacqueline Wilson.

The Office of International Programs leads Wayne State's global engagement by creating opportunities that foster international education and research, facilitate the exchange of individuals and ideas that promote global competencies and citizenship, and provide resources that support the expansion of the university's global agenda.
