Giving Day: Giving students their passport to international study
When the Wayne State community comes together for Giving Day on Thursday, April 11, a new project from the Office of International Programs will help fund passports for at least 100 first-generation and underserved students who register for study abroad in 2019-20.
Giving Day is a 24-hour fundraising campaign during which all Warriors (and Tartars!) are encouraged to make a collaborative impact on the student experience and a wide variety of key campus projects. This year, OIP will double the impact of your gift by matching donations to its Passport Program.
Removing the financial barrier of getting a passport does more than simply save a student money.
"Getting a passport breaks down a psychological barrier to travel," according to Ahmad Ezzeddine, associate vice president for international programs. "Once it's in your hand you know you can go anywhere and the world opens up to you.
"We want to give Wayne State students an opportunity to study abroad, be exposed to the world, travel and learn from other cultures. We want to give at least 100 students the opportunity to get their passport."
Passports cost $145, and donations of all sizes are welcome. Every dollar makes a difference and means that one more student will move closer to achieving their dream of international study.
