International and transfer golf student-athletes keep it up to par with academic honors
The GLIAC All-Academic and All-Academic Excellence Teams recognize student-athletes that excel on and off the course, and the university's Men's Golf program has noted a league-best eight athletes receiving All-Academic honors. Of those eight, two are from Canada and three are transfer students.
The GLIAC All-Academic Team honors students who receive a cumulative GPA between 3.0 and 3.49 for the season, while the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team recognizes those who have maintained a GPA over 3.5 for the season.
Carson McKinlay
Redshirt junior and global supply chain management major Carson McKinlay from Ridgetown, Ontario, has received the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team honor for the third time in his career. He is also a fixture on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for having a GPA over 3.5 every season since Winter 2018, and prior to that made the Coach's Honor roll for having a GPA between 3.0 and 3.49 for the Fall 2016, Winter 2016 and Fall 2017 seasons. He is a member of the WSU Student Leadership Council and a former member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Brendan Seys
Senior finance major Brendan Seys from Port Lambton, Ontario, received his first All-Academic award by being named to the GLIAC All-Academic Team. He has also made it on the Coach's Honor Roll for having a GPA between 3.0 and 3.49 for the Winter 2018, Fall 2018, Fall 2019 and Winter 2020 seasons. Seys is a member of the WSU Student Leadership Council.
Nicholas Winiarski
MBA student and Mott Community College transfer Nicholas Winiarski cracked the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team for the first time in his career. Winiarski was named to the GLIAC All-Academic Team the prior season, his first year eligible. He has also made it on to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for having a GPA over 3.5 in Fall 2017, Winter 2019 and Winter 2020 and the Coach's Honor Roll in Winter 2018 for having a GPA between 3.0 and 3.49.
Anthony Bolden
Senior sports management major Anthony Bolden has been named to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team. This was Bolden's first year of eligibility for the award since transferring from Tusculum College. Bolden has also received the D2 Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award the past two seasons. He has made the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for having a GPA over 3.5 every semester since transferring to WSU.
Austin Alexander
Receiving his third straight GLIAC All-Academic Team honor is redshirt senior and computer science major Austin Alexander. Alexander has previously attended Oakland Community College and Michigan State. Since transferring to WSU and joining the golf team in 2017, he was named to the Coach's Honor Roll for having a GPA between 3.0 and 3.49 in Winter 2017, Fall 2017 and Winter 2018. He has also made the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for having a GPA over 3.5 in Fall 2018, Winter 2019, Fall 2019, and a 4.0 in Winter 2020.
