International Student and Scholar Network

International Students and Scholars go through a rigorous process to study and work in the U.S. Entering a new country comes with challenges. International students and scholars make valuable contributions to our society. To assist in their transition, OISS is collaborating with the WSU community and our community partners to provide a variety of resources for international students and scholars when they arrive on campus beginning in the fall 2010 term and we need your support.

The new ISSN (International Student and Scholar Network) will include the following resources and services:
  • Homestay
Short or long-term homestay where volunteers will host an international student or scholar while they transition to the U.S. on a short or long-term basis. Beginning May 1, 2010 you will find additional information on the OISS website and you will be able to apply.
  • Airport Pick-up
Our international students can arrive on-campus for classes no more than 30 days prior to their program start date. We are coordinating an airport pick up to provide international students with shuttle information and also a list of volunteers who will pick them up from the airport. More details will be forthcoming.
  • Furniture and Other Items
Our international students and scholars spend a great deal of money to study and live in the U.S. Transitioning to a new culture isn't always easy. Therefore we will be working with our community groups to coordinate a furniture donation drive where employees can donate furniture or other household items that are no longer being used. Additionally, you can donate new sheets, pillow cases and other items that will be useful.

Additional information on how you can get involved will be available on our website by May 1, 2010.
