Wayne State offers in-state tuition to residents of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands

Wayne State University will offer Michigan in-state tuition for residents of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands beginning with the winter 2018 semester. Registration is underway and continues through Jan. 22, 2018.

The new policy applies to undergraduate and graduate students, but does not include programs in the Law School of School of Medicine. The in-state tuition plan will continue through 2020.

Provost Keith Whitfield said the new policy will help students continue on a degree-seeking path with little interruption in their studies.

"In light of the damage done by hurricanes Irma and Maria, and the devastation of the universities in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, we are eager to offer this opportunity for in-state tuition to students whose studies have been disrupted," Whitfield says. "The most important thing for these students is to keep them in school, so they can complete their degrees. We hope we can help make that a reality by offering Michigan tuition rates to these students."

Students can apply to Wayne State online at admissions.wayne.edu. The in-state tuition discount will be applied automatically for residents of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
