Programs
The English Language Institute (ELI) of Wayne State University (WSU) teaches non-native speakers of English from all over the world. You can complete our intensive English program for conditional admission to your degree program of choice at WSU or simply to improve your English skills. Our comprehensive programs allow you to improve your listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing, and grammar in a natural, integrated way.
You can attend programs throughout the year, with classes beginning in September, January, and May. We offer courses at high-intermediate and advanced levels. Our curriculum is based on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), an international standard for language learning. An official English proficiency score report is required for admission to the program. View our placement chart to see which level you qualify for. We currently do not admit beginning-level students.
All ELI classes are in person on the WSU campus.
