Cost and payment policies

Costs

Your total cost will include program fees (in-country transportation and accommodations) and some additional expenses (for example entry fees to sites, guide services, health insurance, etc.), depending on your program. Unless specifically stated, your program fees do not include the cost of tuition, airfare and fees for the course(s) you are required to be registered in when participating in the program. You'll also want to bring additional spending money for during the trip. Specific details are outlined on each program page

Each faculty-led study abroad program requires that you register for a specific academic course, which you can find listed on your program's webpage. You must pay the cost of your tuition, registration fees, and books or materials required for that academic course. You can familiarize yourself with Wayne State University's tuition and fee structure for more information.

If you're still unsure, a Study Abroad advisor can help you estimate costs for your particular program.

Payment

All payments are made through the application portal using a credit card or ACH electronic payment. We can not accept cash.

You can pay for your program in full or through an installment plan. Payment due dates are listed on each program's webpage

A non-refundable program deposit is required to secure your place on the program. The deposit amount is listed on the program webpage and is due when you are accepted into the program.

Refund Policy

A variety of expenses such as airfare deposits and hotel accommodation fees are paid before a program begins, so it isn't possible to refund your payments in full if you withdraw from a program. The $50 application fee and program deposit are non-refundable. The program fees (paid after the deposit) are only refundable in certain circumstances:

  • If you withdraw from a program 90 days or more before the program starts, 75% of the program fees will be refunded to you.
  • If you withdraw from a program 60-89 days before the program starts, 50% of the program fees will be refunded to you.
  • If you withdraw from a program 1-59 days before the program starts, you will not receive a refund.

A certain minimum number of students must enroll in a study abroad program in order for the program to run. If minimum participation is not met, the program may be cancelled. If this happens, you can transfer to another program or receive a full refund.

Please note: The Office of Study Abroad and Global Programs reserves the right to cancel any program, revise its offerings, or to make any adjustments to the preliminary cost estimates due to conditions beyond its control.
